AMERICAN RED CROSS CALL FOR NURSES

The American Red Cross is seeking up to 200 licensed nurses for deployment in the US in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.  Licensed nurses need to be available to be deployed to work at service centers, to do outreach in urban and rural areas, to work in shelters, at feeding sites, in client homes, at Red Cross chapters, or at disaster relief operation headquarters.

H-1(b) CAP REACHED

USCIS has issued a notice indicating that there are now sufficient cap-subject H-1Bs in the pipeline to fill the fiscal year 2006 quota--a fiscal year that does not even start until October 1, 2005.  Petitions filed after August 10, 2005, will be rejected.  Petitions filed on August 10th may also be rejected, subject to the final accounting of cases.

CGFNS WILL POSTPONE MAILING TO HURRICAN AREAS

As a result of National Mail Service Updates from the U.S. Postal Service regarding limited and suspended mail service in the areas of Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi due to Hurrican Katrina, the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) will hold off mailing all VisaScreen and Certification Program Certificates to applicants in the affected areas until the U.S. Postal Service resumes service in these areas.

CGFNS DESIGNATES FIVE QUEBEC-BASED SCHOOLS AS "ENGLISH LANGUAGE"

The Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) today designated five nursing schools in the province of Quebec, Canada, as offering "nursing programs in which the language of instruction is English," as authorized by Section 212(r) of the Immigration and Nationality Act and its related regulations.

The Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) and the International Council of Nurses (ICN) recently launched the International Centre on Nurse Migration.  The Centre is an international resource for the development, promotion and dissemination of research, policy and information on nurse migration.
