HR 5924 Introduced
On April 30, Reps. Wexler and Sensenbrenner introduced the long-desired Schedule A retrogression elimination bill.  The bill will allow many nurses and physical therapists, whose cases have been pending for many years, to have their cases timely processed.  We are up to ten co-cosponsors.

AHA, ASHHRA Support Emergency Nurse Supply Relief Act
The AHA and American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration Friday expressed support for H.R. 5924, legislation to alleviate the nation’s growing shortage of nurses. In a letter to sponsors Reps. Robert Wexler (D-FL) and James Sensenbrenner (R-WI), the groups said, “Your bill will help address our current domestic shortage by providing an exemption from current employment-based visa caps for nurses. It also helps address domestic supply by establishing a program to help prepare more nurse educators.”

ANA Lobby Day
The American Nurses Association (ANA) is holding a lobby day on June 24, 2008.  The goal of the lobby day is to show elected officials that nurses are aware, active, and committed to the issues that affect the quality of care they are able to deliver to their patients and their constituents.

Outcome of Nurse Shortage Causes Concern
An American Nurses Association poll of registered nurses nationwide reveals their significant concerns over how nurse staffing affects the quality of care, and contributes to the growing nursing shortage. The results highlight the need for adequate nurse staffing critical to the delivery of quality patient care.
