IMMIGRATION ALERT
6,393/20,000 MASTERS H-1Bs USED
US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
announced today that it had received in excess of 6,393 H-1(B) petitions
that will be counted against the Fiscal Year 2005 cap. These petitions
are part of the additional 20,000 H-1(B) visas made available by the
H-1(B) Visa Reform Act of 2004 for those foreign workers holding a
Masters or higher degree from a U.S. academic institution.
The H-1(B) Visa Reform Act went into effect on May 5, 2005 and provides
for 20,000 H-1(B) visas specifically for foreign workers with a US
Master’s or higher degree from a US institution. These 20,000 visas will
be counted in addition to the Congressionally mandated annual cap of
65,000 H-1(B) visas made available per fiscal year.
