03/31/2004 HEALTHCARE IMMIGRATION ALERT:
SENATE URGES DELAY OF VISA SCREEN REGULATIONS

Leading members of Senate Judiciary Committee have drafted and sent a letter to Tom Ridge, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) urging him to delay the implementation of the forthcoming additional Visa Screen regulations until October 1, 2005. A copy of this letter is attached to this Immigration Alert.

The Committee terms the Visa Screen regulations as "redundant" and that the implementation of the regulations will "have an adverse impact on a number of states throughout the country that rely on foreign nurses."

The letter also hints that the Senate seeks to work with DHS and CGFNS to ensure streamlined and efficient certification processes.
