IMMIGRATION ALERT
UPDATE: 20,000 EXTRA H-1B VISAS?
Recently many immigration news sites have
inaccurately reported that the CIS shortly will authorize 20,000 new
FY2005 H-1B visas. Actually, the CIS may reauthorize as many as 20,000
FY 2005 H-1B visas. (See:
http://www.hammondlawfirm.com/alerts/12.09.2004alert.htm).
Currently the CIS is delaying the implementation of the reauthorization
while it audits all of its FY2005 H-1B cases and computes the number of
US Masters degree holders. During the re-count, the CIS discovered that
it inadvertently approved 10,000 more H-1B cases than it should have.
(See:
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/T/TOO_MANY_VISAS?SITE=OHCIN&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT).
The CIS is not committing to a time-table for the Notice of the release
of the additional visas, nor how the over-approval will impact the
reauthorization.
