01/10/2003 IMMIGRATION ALERT:
INS LIFTS FREEZE ON 485, NATURALIZATIONS

On January 10, the INS advised the American Immigration Lawyers Association that the freeze on I-485 Applications for Adjustments of Status and N-400, Applications for Naturalization has been lifted. The freeze, which stopped approval of cases for about six weeks, was reported to the result of a networking error between the FBI and INS. The FBI ordinarily conducts background checks on all noncitizens applying for Permanent residency and Naturalization.
